Sheepish does not mean nervous.
It means being shamefaced, usually embarrassed when you did / said something wrong and it comes out. It can also mean meek or docile.
That’s not how the -ish modifier works.
Sheep do tend to be wary and to run away when approached by someone. Seems pretty sensical to me
unless you're the sheep near me, who seem confused as to their species and instead act like dogs, including the wagging tail as you give them scritches
I feel like any video of a sheep interaction with a person would show that the expression makes sense
'Gingerly' too. Like you're being so careful you turn into a spicy root?
